The Pensions Trust Strengthens Trustee Board with Appointment of New Chair

Issued on: 21 April 2010

• Sarah Smart appointed as Chair of the Trustee Board
• Clare Smith and Stephen Duckworth also appointed to the Trustee Board

The Pensions Trust, the leading multi-employer occupational pension fund in the UK for the Third Sector, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Smart as Chair of its Trustee Board effective from 13 April 2010.

Sarah joins the Trustee Board with considerable past experience. She has served as a trustee for a number of both public and private sector schemes, and is currently Trustee Chair of the Macmillan Cancer Support Pension Scheme and a Board member of the London Pensions Fund Authority. Sarah also brings considerable investment experience to the Board, having spent nine years with Standard Life Investments, where she was latterly responsible for building the infrastructure to support a multi-billion pound liability driven investment business.

In her new position as Chair of the Trustee of The Pensions Trust, Sarah will be playing a pivotal role in leading the Board and creating the conditions for overall Board effectiveness.

In addition, and following on from the election of Member and Employer Nominated Directors, The Pensions Trust announces the election of two further Board Directors. Clare Smith joins as Member Nominated Director, and Stephen Duckworth is re-elected as an Employer Nominated Director.

Stephen Nichols, Chief Executive of The Pensions Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sarah Smart as Chair of our Trustee Board. Her appointment is a testament to our commitment to provide the highest level of expertise and support to both existing and future scheme members. With Sarah’s impressive profile, and the appointment of Stephen Duckworth and Clare Smith, we are confident that they will help us drive our business forward and maintain our aim of making membership worthwhile.”

Sarah Smart, Chair of Trustee Board, said: “I am delighted to be appointed as the Chair of The Pensions Trust’s Trustee Board. The current environment of economic uncertainty and increasing regulatory changes presents a huge challenge for all pension schemes and I look forward to working with The Pensions Trust to ensure we continue to offer relevant, worthwhile pension schemes to our members.”
